Tectona Grandis Teak, Sustainable Plantation Wood Forest

The rare beauty of teak, its decorative grain, unique properties of stability under extreme climatic changes, durability, longevity, and resistance to wear have made it one of the world’s most demanded exotic hardwoods.

Tectona Grandis is considered by mariners to be the world’s most valuable and versatile hardwood. It has endured for hundreds of years (600 years before the time of Christ) as the first lumber of choice in shipbuilding. Why? Teak is specified for external uses because it is one of the only woods that can withstand the harsh challenges of the seawater, broiling sun and does not split, splinter, crack, swell or warp.

When teak dries it takes on a character of fine sandstone and maintains its dimension and form as no other lumber. A wet teak deck is not as slippery due to its high silica content. Teak, because of its natural oils and high mineral content has a very low coefficient of expansion and contraction so it remains stable under the most extreme and varying conditions.

The teak resins, called techno quinines, are a natural antiseptic that repel insects and bacteria, thereby resisting rot. The same oils enable teak to resist corrosion when in contact with metals. The chemical industry recognizes many applications for teak components because of its durability and resistance to harsh chemicals, especially acids.

Uses of Teak

Teak can be used for floors, doors, component parts, moldings, decks, furniture, and virtually any kind of upscale joinery. The teak price is only marginally higher than American red oak, so it does have application in a number of common uses. Although we here at Beautiful Woodforest Products have focused primarily on teak floors, the premiere application for teak is entry doors. And let us not forget the benefit of a teak wood deck that will perform just as admirably in your backyard as on a sea-faring vessel.

Teak Flooring

Imagine having the beauty and benefits of a teak yacht deck in your living room, recreation room, dining room or kitchen. Why not? We have it available at a price that competes with oak. Our teak flooring is made from certified renewable sustainable plantation wood. It is professionally dried solid teak wood machined to the highest industry standards, tongue and grooved, end-matched, and micro-beveled edge.

The flooring product line consists of solid teak wood strips, planks, and parquet. The strips are 2-1/4” finished face X 5/8” thick. The standard planks are 3-1/4” finished face, and the wide planks are 4-3/4” finished face with a thickness of 5/8”. The wide planks may be special ordered in 3/4” thickness. The strips and planks come in equally sorted bundles of 12” to 48” lengths. The parquet is milled at a 2” width X 12” length and 5/8” thick.

Teak wood flooring may be “nailed down” or “glued-down”. When the strips and planks are “glued down” directly to a concrete slab foundation, with a high-quality polyurethane product, the teak flooring will resist many problems that plague other wood flooring like oak. Without the plywood sub flooring, teak will withstand moisture from spills, leaks, or even wet mopping with water better than oak and many other species of wood. Even when teak is nailed down, it retains its properties against moisture as long as the sub floor stays dry.

Our customers have had water standing on their glued down teak floors due to flooding and after when the floor dried they were able to sand and finish the floors without removing and replacing any of the teak.

Our customers have increased their profits by eliminating callbacks due to warping, cupping, and twisted flooring components. In summary, our teak wood product line has earned a spot in the marketplace by solving problems.
