This is a standard, dog ear top fence. It could have been built with pine or cedar, but we chose to build it out of cypress. Cypress is known for not warping when exposed to the elements. Add to that the natural pesticides, and you've got the perfect fence. Long lasting and beautiful. |
Can you tell which half of this fence is cedar and which half is mountain cypress? Let me give you a hint. The cypress is darker and has fewer knots. Yup, that's it, the cypress is on the right. |

Cypress boards on cedar rails. The differences in the color and nature of the two woods is almost imperceptable. Cypress is naturally resistant to splitting and warping, so these boards will stay straight and strong for years.

Pre-staining your cypress fence is also an option. The rich color of the cedar rails enhances the look of the cypress. Looks good to me! |
Cypress can be used in any installation that cedar would be with the same or better results. Pre-staining the boards, as was done here, just seems to enhance the fine grain of the wood.
